cheeser that wasn't 8 was it? 8 was default methods. [12:50]
ricky_clarkson audiofile: You call a method on an object. E.g., List<String> list = new ArrayList<>(); list.size() calls the size() method of the ArrayList. [12:51]

tolarz is it big? [09:33]
dreamreal compared to 5G, no [09:33]
dreamreal it's about one tenth the size [09:33]
tolarz super unhelpful [09:33]
dreamreal I don't know what you're asking! [09:34]
tolarz i still get a stackoverflow at compilation with 4096 MiB [09:34]
dreamreal at *compilation*? [09:34]
tolarz yes [09:34]
dreamreal something's bad wrong then, because you can compile a giant project with 2G [09:35]
tolarz scala macro magic [09:35]

dreamreal the compiler's not especially memory hea... oh why are you asking here then [09:35]

dreamreal shrugs [09:35]
dreamreal Don't know which lib you're referring to, but if it's the scala compiler you probably want to ask #scala [09:36]
dreamreal if it's just A LIB in scala, well, javac has no issues using scala libs, they're not stack-heavy for the java compiler [09:36]
tolarz it's circe [09:37]
tolarz a json library [09:37]

terabyte eyes dreamreal right back [09:42]

acidjnk_new hello - I'm working on a bugfix that is pretty simple: A method CAN throw some unchecked exception, and then leaves things in a bad state without cleanup. So I could try { m(); } catch (final RuntimeException e) { cleanup(); throw e; } but it feels wrong. [11:20]
acidjnk_new What's a better pattern? [11:20]
tolarz the method should do the cleanup itself in a finally [11:21]
tolarz also: isn't the point of unchecked exceptions to be fatal? [11:22]
acidjnk_new that is inside the method. It calls another method, which might throw the exception. [11:22]
tolarz so? [11:22]
acidjnk_new so you would rather do something like: try { m(); } finally { if (checkState()) cleanup(); }? [11:23]

tolarz m should do it itself [11:23]

acidjnk_new For a clean fix, I'd have to change a lot more, thanks. I'll just decide to change a lot or do a dirty fix. [11:25]

dreamreal arm [11:38]
dreamreal dreamreal, arm is Automatic Resource Management; the concept of closing resources after you're done with them. This can easily be done with javas try-with-resources syntax (http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/exceptions/tryResourceClose.html) - if you have to use Java older than 7 for some reason, you can use lombok's @Cleanup: http://projectlombok.org/features/Cleanup.html [11:38]

dreamreal jars are collections of resources, they don't have to have ANYTHING in them besides the manifest, and what type of resources is arbitrary: can be only images, or text files, or classes, or whatever [12:22]
dreamreal classpath [12:22]
dreamreal The classpath tells Java or the compiler which jar files and folders to search for classes and resources. Use the -cp/-classpath run-time options to specify the classpath (does NOT work with -jar!). Also see http://bit.ly/15InVZQ [cheeser's blog], http://bit.ly/19MnH5C [oracle.com], or http://bit.ly/2aJ5MoG for more information. [12:22]
dreamreal that's not how a package works [12:22]
reactor16 dreamreal, the main question is ' im looking for a tool that can search for string inside multiple jar file' [12:23]
dreamreal grep, ack [12:23]
reactor16 this string could be a method or class or anything inside this jar [12:24]
dreamreal if it's a method or class it's not a string, but grep and ack can also search the indexes of jars, since they're simple zips [12:24]
reactor16 dreamreal, grep is compiled or compressed file [12:24]

cheeser if your strategies are a closed set, enums can be useful in scenarios like that where you seralize the name of the strategy [01:55]

unautre What if your new strategy requires a state for example ? [02:04]
cheeser either would require adding a new class [02:04]
unautre And finally, what does the enum brings, that juste having an interface and a set of singletons for your different strategies ? [02:04]
unautre nevermind, I just read your message cheeser regarding that [02:05]
